CTE: Professional Theatre

No previous experience or knowledge of theatre necessary! This course introduces the variety of careers in professional theatre, and builds the foundational skills for technical and performance disciplines to create live performances in theatre and musical theatre. Students will study the evolution and history of performing arts and foundational acting, dancing, playwriting, singing, technical, artistic, and design aspects of theatre.

Think of this class as Theatre 101. We will work on the basics: history of theatre (like the fact that plays have started riots and there's a joke about theatre in Avengers), acting types, monologues, intro to combat, critiques of live performances, some basic improv rules and games, character building, etc. This will lay the foundation of the skills and knowledge needed to move into the Advanced class. No previous experience or knowledge of theatre is needed. That's what I teach you in this class!

CTE: Advanced Professional Theatre

This course will apply performance skills learned to larger and more complex projects that result in live performances of theatre. Design and directing elements will be explored and students will prepare audition or direction portfolios, along with professional career plans. Students can develop their own project focus within the career opportunities for visual and performing arts.

This takes everything from the first class and kicks it up a notch. We move into complex scene work and One-Act playwriting, along with stage and costume design. We dive into specific aspects, along with the crazy amount of different job options in theatre. Students can also craft their own inquiry and research projects around an aspect of theatre they like. Learning becomes personalized to your needs/wants as you continue to learn the world of theatre.
